Through the Fine Motor Foundations Program, children will access a toolbox of resources that has been curated with the goal of fostering beginning fine motor skills. The resources provide opportunity to engage with five foundational fine motor projects, including colouring using beeswax crayons, dot painting, manipulating modelling dough, finger painting with ink and finger painting with paint and stencils.

To support the facilitator in guiding these projects at home, there is a series of online videos that contain tips and tricks for implementing the projects at home and show the resources being used and engaged with. There is also an instructional card containing ideas for ways to play with the included resources, plus additional ideas for developing fine motor skills using resources and items from home.

As children engage with these resources, they will explore sensory-rich materials, practise basic pre-writing skills and engage in creative projects that are aimed at stimulating their fine motor development. The skill development is an inherent component of interacting with the resources provided and using an activity-based model can assist in increased engagement, attention and motivation to repeatedly practise a new skill.

ABOUT THE SERIES: The Therapy at Home Fine Motor Program Series has been thoughtfully designed with distinct levels of skill development over three separate programs. The accompanying toolboxes of activities and tasks have been tailored to meet the diverse needs of children at various stages of motor skill acquisition. The series recognises that each child progresses differently and employs a tiered structure to cater to individual differences. At the foundational level, children engage in activities focusing on basic hand strength, hand-eye coordination and grasp. The intermediate level builds upon these fundamentals, introducing more intricate tasks that demand increased precision and motor control. Finally, the advanced level challenges children with activities that refine fine motor skills to a level suitable for academic and daily life tasks.

The toolboxes associated with each level are equipped with a range of activities, carefully selected to progressively challenge and develop fine motor skills. The program's flexibility allows educators and caregivers to tailor interventions based on individual abilities and pace of progress. By offering this comprehensive and adaptive approach, the Therapy at Home Fine Motor Program Series aims to support children in their development of necessary skills for academic success and everyday tasks, while fostering their confidence and independence in their motor abilities.
