nanoblock Program

$579.00

The Therapy at Home nanoblock Program has been specially designed by our OTs to build skills for planning, organisation and time management using Sarah Ward and Kristen Jacobsen’s ‘get ready, do, done’ planning method. This method is explored in conjunction with nanoblock constructions and real-life examples.

The planner provides a scaffolded framework for planning backwards and in doing so, aims to develop the executive functioning skills required to plan, organise, sequence, execute and time manage the tasks required to complete an activity. For other building programs, see the new Build it with Bricks Program with LEGO® Creative Party Box.

Created for ages 10 – 18

An Outcome Report and a block of Group Telehealth Sessions are included with this program.

The Therapy at Home nanoblock Program aims to develop skills and confidence for using the ‘get ready, do, done’ planning method. This method provides a structure for learning how to ‘plan backwards.’ It starts with a forward focus to clearly identify what it will look to be ‘done’ and to ‘get done’ with a task and then works backwards to identify all of the steps and processes that you need to ‘do’ and ‘get ready’ in order to complete the task.

The program will be delivered using The Play Way’s nanoblock Workbook. It provides a detailed breakdown of how to use the planner and contains space to apply this to five different projects. Initially, these projects relate to the nanoblock constructions in order to build an understanding of the method with fun and engaging tasks. From there, the projects move to real-life scenarios in order to gain confidence and independence with using this method for day-to-day planning and organisation.

In addition to developing skills for planning and organisation, the program provides opportunities to experiment with different strategies and tools for focusing attention, organising thoughts and ideas and managing time. Tools such as visual timers, a fidget spinner, ‘get ready, do, done’ magnetic planner and post-it notes are provided for use alongside the workbook to further explore, develop and refine executive functioning skills.

After the five projects have been completed, the workbook offers blank planners that can be used to plan, organise, execute and time-manage day-to-day tasks and activities. It is hoped that the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program provide the building blocks and confidence for further experimentation with using the ‘get ready, do, done’ method.

PLEASE NOTE: The essential components of the toolbox generally don’t change over time unless we are making improvements to the overall program. The specific tools included may differ at times in terms of brand, colour, and other cosmetic differences due to sourcing factors out of our control. This will not affect the therapeutic benefits of the program as intended for the participant. We recommend you only order one program per child to ensure the appropriate use of funds. We cannot tailor toolboxes or programs to suit specific requests at this time. If you order a program for multiple children they will receive the same program and toolbox. All shop listing images are representative of the program theme and not necessarily literal representations of what’s in the toolbox.

What skills will we build?

The Therapy at Home nanoblock Program focuses on skill development in the following areas:

✓ Organisational skills through experimentation with different strategies and tools for organising thoughts and ideas and working with the scaffolded ‘get ready, do, done’ planner

✓ Sequencing skills as the processes for being ‘done’ with a task are clearly identified and ordered into a consecutive process

✓ Time management skills through using tools such as timers to gain and understanding of the concept of different lengths of time and forecasting time estimates in the planning stage prior to commencing a task

✓ Skills for focusing attention and minimising distraction using the fidget tool and grounding strategies

✓ Fine motor skills through manipulation of the small nanoblock bricks

✓ Handwriting skills as the workbook is engaged with throughout the course of the program

✓ Daily living skills through application of the ‘get ready, do, done’ planner to real-life contexts and situations

This is not a report for an end-of-plan review from which a planner can use to make decisions about future funds at a whole plan level.
