The Therapy at Home Build it with Bricks Program: Brick World with LEGO®️ Classic Creative Pet & Classic Creative Houses Boxes builds on the executive function and communication skills developed using the roles of Engineer, Supplier and Builder in the foundational Build it with Bricks Foundation Program with LEGO®️ Classic Box and extends children with the new role of Architect.

Through these roles, children will have the opportunity to further develop and master the skills from the foundational program and engage in play-based learning and LEGO®️-therapy using the much-loved building medium.

If not yet completed, we strongly suggest that the Build it with Bricks Foundation Program is completed first, so that the therapy aspect and language requirements are familiar prior to extending on these in Build it with Bricks: Brick World Program.

The Build it with Bricks: Brick World Program has been designed to explore the four different roles across five different LEGO® projects. The skill development and structure of these projects follows that of the Build it with Bricks Program 2.0 with LEGO® Creative Party Box, but introduces brand new LEGO® builds from the LEGO® Classic Creative Pet Box and LEGO® Classic Creative Houses Box. The intention here is to provide an ongoing opportunity for children to transfer and master the skills associated with each role using play and their love of LEGO® to motivate, encourage, excite and delight.

Throughout the program, children will engage with the following projects:

  • Project 1: Be the supplier and builder and create a dog
  • Project 2: Be the supplier and builder and create a blue house
  • Project 3: Be the engineer and create a cat
  • Project 4: Be the architect and create a greenhouse
  • Project 5: Be the architect and create a turtle

In the initial projects, children will be guided to undertake the roles of Supplier and Builder, with the presenter scaffolding and demonstrating the communication and language requirements of the Engineer role. Then, they will be supported to assume the role of Engineer and lead others in their roles of Supplier and Builder.

The role of Architect is implemented using The Play Way’s Architect Workbook. This resource and the accompanying videos will guide children to develop their own design for a LEGO® build and assist in, breaking down, organising and sequencing the step-by-step processes required to create their very own LEGO® instructions. It is an opportunity to let their creativity and imagination shine, while also encouraging the development of communication and planning and organisational skills.

To support the delivery of the program at home, there is a series of guided videos to demonstrate the language and communication skills required to give, receive and process instructions for each of the roles. In addition to this, there are instruction booklets and reference cards to further support the delivery of the therapy at home.

Throughout the program, children will be offered extension activities to consider various items that they might create alongside the builds from the projects to design their very own Brick World with houses and pets. To support this, we have included road tape for children to use as the foundation for their Brick World.

Beyond the program, children can continue developing skills in the areas of executive functioning, language and communication, and social interactions by utilising the roles and associated resources in other LEGO® builds at home.
